Addressing Cost of Living Crisis for Women and Girls
RWCA is delighted to share that we have received essential funding to address the profound impact of the
cost-of-living crisis on women and girls within our community. As this crisis intensifies, women and girls who are
not financially independent face increased pressure, particularly those experiencing domestic violence, which
often keeps them in unsafe situations due to financial constraints.
In response to these challenges, RWCA has proactively taken measures to ensure the safety and well-being of
women and girls in our community. We have extended our office hours to provide a safe haven and introduced
free breakfast meetings and coffee-chat hours to foster a sense of community. Our free arts and sports activities
empower women and girls while combating isolation.
To address these issues, we will distribute Oyster cards to make it easier for women and girls to escape violent
situations using public transportation. Additionally, we will establish food banks to ensure access to nourishment
and security. Our center remains a safe and welcoming space for all.
We hired a support worker to reach out to women and girls, assess their eligibility for food bank services, and
provide referrals to our domestic violence support program or other relevant organizations. This funding is crucial
to our mission of empowering women and girls in our community, offering safety, support, and resilience in the
face of the cost-of-living crisis.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the granting organization, The London Community Foundation, for their
support.
