RWCA is delighted to announce that we have received support through Trust for London’s Better Work programme to improve employment conditions and strengthen awareness of workplace rights within Turkish and Kurdish-speaking communities across North London.
Many migrant workers continue to face significant challenges within working life, including low pay, insecure employment, long working hours, and limited awareness of their legal rights. Language barriers, lack of accessible information, and difficulties navigating support services can often leave individuals vulnerable to unfair and exploitative working conditions.
Research carried out within our community highlighted the scale of these challenges and revealed that many workers were experiencing difficulties understanding their rights and accessing appropriate support. The findings also showed that many employers themselves were often unaware of their responsibilities and obligations within the workplace.
Through this project, RWCA will work closely with both employees and employers to improve understanding of workplace rights, responsibilities, and fair working practices. The initiative will include community outreach, information sessions, awareness campaigns, specialist workshops, and one-to-one guidance to help individuals access advice and support in their own language.
The project will also strengthen pathways to specialist organisations and employment support services, ensuring that individuals facing workplace difficulties can access the appropriate guidance and assistance when needed.
By increasing awareness, improving access to information, and promoting fair working environments, we hope to help create healthier workplaces and stronger communities where people feel informed, supported, and empowered.
We look forward to sharing updates as this important initiative develops.
